Scheme of wing pattern:

Description of adults: Examined: 2 [Holotype, Paratype]. Forewing length: 1.9 - 2.2 mm. Head brown; vestiture of hair-like scales on the head whitish; antennae brown, golden shining; thorax and tegulae golden; forewings coppery to purple with light golden markings: At 1/4 a broad fascia from costa inwardly oblique towards inner margin, constricted towards costa; at 1/2 a broad fascia across the whole wing width, in the middle slightly bent outwards; at nearly 3/4 a more or less quadrangulate spot from costa inwardly oblique towards the middle of the wing; fringe golden, whitish outwards; hindwings bronzy golden with purplish tinge; fringe golden, lighter outwards; legs and abdomen brown, golden shining.

Distribution:

So far, the species is known only from two localities in northern Algeria (Kurz & Kurz 2011).

Biology:

There aren´t any data available about the biology of M. lambesiella.

Genitalia. Uncus moderately long and slender, finger-like; beneath the uncus a weak structure with hair-like setae; accessory claspers well developed, nearly triangle-shaped, near the rounded, distalmost edge two rows of stout and thickened setae: The distal row with about 11 moderately short setae, the anterior ones hook-like, the posterior ones more or less straight to slightly bent; the proximal row with about 12 short to very short setae, the anterior ones strongly modified, axe-like; valves moderately long, slightly bent wave-like, medially constricted; valves at the inner surface postbasally with two longer setae, the spatulate distal end with 1 - 2 rows of short, straight, stout and thickened setae.

Due to its small size and the isolated distribution in northern Africa, M. lambesiella is easily recognizeable. Other similar species like Micropterix myrtetella myrtetella Zeller, 1850 or Micropterix minimella Heath, 1973 usually are darker purple, the latter also having a distinctly different wing pattern. Furthermore, both species do not occur in northern Africa.
