As a new parasite, shortly after the year 2000, the fungus Chalara fraxinea Kowalski, 2006 has been described, which later turned out to be asexual form of Hymenoscyphus albidus. The fungus causes a severe disease, which leads to a dying of the outer twigs first and of the whole tree after some years.
