Description of adults: (Description from wikipedia 2018): "Ground-colour white, only in the female the short costal band placed outside the cell connected with the hindmarginal spot by an irregular dusty band, the glossy submarginal band of the forewing sharp but narrow, the male with small, the female with larger, crescent-shaped submarginal spots on the hindwing; on the latter the anal spot mostly centred with red."

Distribution:

The species is distributed in the western parts of USA and Canada (see also Häuser et al. 2005), i.e. British Columbia, Washington, Oregon, Nevada and California following wikipedia (2018).

The species is quite distinctive. It somewhat resembles P. phoebus (Fabricius, 1793) from the Altai region, is distinguished however, beside its distribution range, by the roundish red spots, which are more quadrangulate in P. phoebus.
