Distribution:

Following Bozano & Weidenhoffer (2001), the typical subspecies is distributed in high altitudes in Afghanistan (Hindukush) and Kirghizia.

Diagnosis:

Subspecies aeolides is usually somewhat smaller. In the female, the upperside of the hindwing is usually darker and the submarginal red band is obsolete (Bozano & Weidenhoffer 2001).
