Ginger root is one of the most important spices, especially in the Asian kitchen. It is used freshly, in thin slices, or dried and ground to powder for meat, stews but also various sweets and gives them their characteristic hot and spicy taste.

Ginger root is also an ingredient of the Tinctura aromatica. The latter belongs to the group of the provoking medicines (Erethistica) and is used against flatulences and stomach troubles. An old recipe reads as follows (Mohr 1854):
(wikipedia 2020).
