Biology:

The species has been found amongst Brachypodium ramosum R.S. (Poaceae) (Heath, 1973). The imagines were on the wing in late April and May (Kurz & Kurz 2011)

Stages in development:

The early stages are unknown.

Genitalia. Uncus moderately long and slender; accessory claspers shoe-like, with several setae on the inner surface; valves moderately long, distinctly constricted beyond the middle, with club-shaped distal ends; at the inner surface of the valves some setae postbasally, as well as 1 - 2 irregular rows of short, stout and thickened setae close to the ventral margin of the club-shaped ends.

Genitalia. Tergite IX missing; sternite IX much reduced, only weakly sclerotized, with indistinct borders; segments IX and X with their intersegmental membranes forming a strikingly long ovipositor; papillae anales with broad, band-like, but weak sclerotization, proximally somewhat inflated; ductus seminalis long and thin; receptaculum seminis also long and thin, proximally only slightly inflated, but distinctly striated and with a small appendix proximally.

Diagnosis:

Due to its small size and its endemic distibution, M. minimella is readily distinguished from all other species of the genus.

Phylogeny: With respect to the male genitalia, we do not know of any close relatives to M. minimella.
