The species is distributed throughout Europe (Karsholt & Nieukerken 2019). The vertical distribution reaches from the lowlands up to 2400 m. In higher altitudes, the species is represented by f. ariae (Kurz & Kurz 2019).

The flight time of the imagines reaches from the end of June till September, with single individuals even till November (Kurz & Kurz 2019). Natural biotopes of the species are deciduous woods, it is found however also in cultivated areas and in settlements (Kurz & Kurz 2019).
