Lampronia pubicornis (Haworth, 1828)

(zoological nomenclature: valid name, available)

General information:

Capillaria pubicornis Haworth, 1828: 523.
Type locality: England, London
Type: in coll. NHM, London?

Synonyms, misspellings, wrong determinations, etc.:
Tinea flavifrontella sensu auctorum nec Denis & Schiffermüller, 1775 ?: The identity of T. flavifrontella Denis & Schiffermüller, 1775 is doubtful and has untill recently been interpreted in different ways by different authors. Whereas Zagulajev (1978) or Pellmyr (1996) attribute the name to a Lampronia-species, most others like Karsholt & Nieukerken (2004) use the name flavifrontella for a Pseudatemelia-species. Since the collection of Denis & Schiffermüller has been destroyed in the Hofburg fire in 1848 (anonymous 2009b), the identity of Tinea flavifrontella will have to be settled by the designation of a neotype. The situation becomes even more complicated by the homonyms Tinea flavifrontella Thunberg, 1794, which is now regarded to be Tineola bisselliella (Hummel, 1823) or Tinea flavifrontella Hübner, 1801, an assumed missidentification of Tinea pellionella Linne, 1758.

Diagnosis:

Externally, L. pubicornis is very similar to Lampronia fuscatella (Tengström, 1848), although normally it is said to be somewhat smaller (Heath & Pelham-Clinton 1983).
