Description of adults. Translation of original description (Lienig & Zeller 1846): Vestiture of hair-like scales on the head somewhat distant, rusty yellow; face smoothly scaled; labial palpi straight ahead, somewhat thickened distally, yellow; antennae basally yellow; forewings violet-brown, near the basis a golden-yellow fascia, not reaching the costa, slightly outwardly oblique towards the costa; slightly beyond the middle a similar fascia across the whole wing width, straight, linear, sometimes slightly constricted; at the apex, fringe whitish distally; hindwings grey; underside grey, markings of forewing upperside only faintly developed, best visible are the costal and tornal part of the distal fascia.

Distribution:

L. redimitella has been found so far only in the northern parts of central Europe (southwards to the Czech Republic and Slovakia), the Baltic states and Scandinavia (Karsholt & Nieukerken, 2004).

Biology:

Following Lienig & Zeller (1846), the species has been found around cultivars of Ribes. One specimen has been caught on May 9th (Liening & Zeller 1846).

Stages in development:

Larva. The larva is greenish or yellowish white. Head and prothoracic plate are brown. In April, the larva feeds in buds of Ribes rubrum and Ribes nigrum (Meeß 1910).

Diagnosis:

Following Pellmyr (1996), the species is smaller than Lampronia sakhalinella Kozlov, 1996, the fascia near the basis being almost complete (separated spots in L. sakhalinella). Furthermore, the pecten is said to be in a different position.
