C. rufifrontella has been observed by me only once on a semi-arid meadow, flying in full sunshine, as well as near bushes around an unidentified species of Brassicaceae. Imagines are on the wing from April to June, depending on the altitude and the geographical latitude (Kurz & Kurz 2013).

The species is very similar to, although normally distinctly larger than unmarked forms of Cauchas rufimitrella (Scopoli, 1763). The ground colour of C. rufifrontella is more greenish, mostly devoid of any purplish shimmer, the vestiture of hair-like scales on the head is more orange coloured, even in males, whereas in C. rufimitrella the vestiture of hair-like scales is dominated by black scales, especially in males. The antennae are shorter than in C. rufimitrella, being less than the forewing length in males (1 1/2 times in C. rufimitrella), respectively, about 0.8 times the forewing length in females (1 1/3 times in C. rufimitrella). Another very similar species is Cauchas albiantennalla (Burmann, 1943), although it readily may be distinguished by the longer (1 1/2 times the forewing length in males) and distally conspiciously white antennae.
