Distribution:

The species is known from the type locality only, which lies in the Acheron valley in Epirus in a height of about 150 m a.s.l. (Kurz & Kurz 2011).

Biology:

The imagines have been caught in mid May (Kurz & Kurz 2011).

Stages in development:

The early stages are unknown.

Genitalia. Uncus short, in the form of a broad beak; between uncus and accessory claspers, on both sides of the stout tegumen, a rounded lobe with a row of about 15 moderately long, stout setae along the distal margin; accessory claspers very broad, of irregular shape, at the inner surface, along the ventral margin with a row of about 10 moderately long, straight, spinoid setae, distally followed by 4 - 5 short stout, somewhat broadened setae; at the inner surface dorsad a second, bent row of short, stout and thickened setae, the distalmost ones modified, Y- to T-shaped, forming a group at the outermost tip; valves relatively long and slender, slightly curved upwards, slightly broadened in the distal third; at the inner surface two postbasal, moderately long, spinoid setae; at the inner surface, at about 3/4 of its length, an irregular group of about 20 very short to moderately long, spinoid setae, two similar short setae close to the distal tip and a row of fine, long setae along the distal third.

Genitalia. Unknown.

Presently, we do not know of any similar species around the type locality. Micropterix kardamylensis Rebel, 1903 from the Peloponnesos peninsula has distinctly broader golden fasciae and lacks the bronzy golden inner margin as well as the small costal spot at 3/5.

Phylogeny: The male genitalia are very similar to those of Micropterix tunbergella (Fabricius, 1787), being distinguished mainly by the shape of the small lobe between uncus and accessory claspers, which is less prominent in M. tunbergella. Nevertheless, we do not know of apomorphies to support this assumed relationship.

Worth knowing:

The official description and naming of the species will be published in the planned volume about Micropterigidae in the "Microlepidoptera of Europe"-series.
