Diagnosis:

The species is best characterized by the missing tails of the hindwings, the light ground color and the strongly reduced red spots on the hind wing upperside. The similar Zerynthia cretica (Rebel, 1904), which is distributed only in Crete, bears very characteristic, arrow-like black spots on the margin of the hind wing upperside.
