Distribution:

The species is distributed from the Mediterranean region through the Middle East and cental Asia to Japan and Taiwan in the east and south-east, as well as Sri Lanka in the south. In Europe, the species reaches the southernmost range of central Europe (southern Alps, Hungary). The vertical distribution is documented so far from near sea-level to about 1800 m. Normally, in the Mediterranean region, the species climbs only a few hundred meters high and flies in higher altitudes only during the hot summer month (Kurz & Kurz 2014).

The species inhabits groups of bushes or trees, open macchia and wood edges, as well as adjacent flowering meadows (Kurz & Kurz 2014). The imagines fly in the northern part of their distribution range in two generations from early June to mid August, in hotter areas in only one generation in early summer (Lepiforum 2014). The hot summer month are often spent in high altitudes, where the imagines can be found then also on alpine meadows. The animals overwinter and fly again from February or March till May (Kurz & Kurz 2014). The daily activity has been documented so far from about 9 a.m. till 5 p.m. Nectar feeding has been recordecd on Paliurus spina-christi (Kurz & Kurz 2014).
