Scheme of wing pattern:

Description of adults: Examined: 33 , 21 [including type series]. Forewing length: 3.2 - 3.6 mm; 3.6 - 4.3 mm. Head black-brown, vestiture of hair-like scales on the head dirty white to dark yellow; antennae dark brown, golden shining, 3/4 (), respectively, slightly more than 1/2 () of forewing length; thorax light bronze golden; tegulae light bronze golden, posteriorly often purple or even with single bluish scales; forewing base mostly reddish-golden to brown-golden (especially in males), golden at the costa; the rest of the forewing dark purple to purple violet with light golden markings: A very broad fascia at nearly 1/4 across the whole wing width, somewhat constricted towards the costa; a similar broad fascia at 1/2; at 3/4 a nearly quadrangulate, inwardly oblique spot extending from costa towards the middle of the wing; the width of the fasciae varies considerable, the females mostly having distinctly narrower ones; furthermore, the fasciae may be confluent along the costa, as well as in the center of the wing and at the inner margin; a moderately broad golden stripe from apex along the outer margin, leaving the outermost tip of the wing purple, sometimes confluent with the spot at 3/4; fringe light golden, whitish golden outwards, along the outer margin often with a coppery base; hind wings bronze golden, apically with a purplish tinge; fringe bronze golden, whitish golden outwards; legs light brown, golden shinig; abdomen dark brown, golden shining.

Distribution:

M. klimeschi rhodiensis is known from the islands of Rhodos and Samos, but is supposed to occur also on other Aegean islands. Vertically, the specimens have been caught near sea level (Kurz & Kurz 2010).

Biology:

Some of the investigated specimens have been caught by Klimesch on Pistacia lentiscus, according to their labels. Imagines have been found from April till June (Kurz & Kurz 2010).

Stages in development:

The early stages are unknown.

genitalia. Uncus moderately long, somewhat stout, with a broadly rounded tip; accessory claspers paddle-like, the distal margin at the inner surface with a row of 6 - 9 moderately long, inwardly bent, stout and thickened setae with spoon-like tips; accessory claspers also at the margin, which is nearest to the uncus, in the middle and located at the inner surface two strongly modified, fin-like, stout and thickened setae; a third, short, stout and thickened seta slightly below these with only slightly enlarged tip at each side; valvae strongly inflated basally, very slender and bent downwards distad of the middle, with spatulate tips; at the inner surface postbasally 3 long, slightly bent, stout and thickened setae near the lower margin, as well as some short setae; the spatulate tip with 6 short, inwardly directed, stout and thickened setae, as well as with some normal setae.

genitalia. Tergite IX missing; sternite IX much reduced, only slightly sclerotized, with indistinct lateral margins; papillae anales band-like sclerotized, not diagnostic; receptaculum seminis very slender and extraordinarily long, the normally conspicuous striation almost completely missing; otherwise, the proximal end of the receptaculum is conspicuously segmented.

So far, there are no externally similar species known within the distribution range of M. klimeschi rhodiensis. This form from the Aegean islands differs from typical Micropterix klimeschi klimeschi Heath, 1973 from Turkey mainland by the presence of a conspicous golden fascia along the outer margin, which is very weak or even missing in the typical form.
The genitalia of both sexes are very charcteristic. From typical M. klimeschi, the males differ by a slightly shorter and broader uncus and by slightly smaller accessory claspers in relation to the whole genitalia. The significance of these differences has not been proved so far, due to the lack of further material.
