Distribution:

The family has a worldwide distribution except the arctic and antarctic areas and comprises more than 1000 species (Forster & Wohlfahrt, 1960). In Europe, records are missing only from Iceland, the Thyrrhenian archipelago, Slovenia (!) and Moldova (Karsholt & Nieurkerken, 2004).
