The genus Gazoryctra is distributed in the high mountains and the subarctic areas of the Holarctic region. In Europe, it is represented with 2 species, which are confined to the Alps and northern Europe. Records are available from France, Switzerland, Italy, Austria and - doubtfully - also Germany, as well as from Fennoscandia and the northern part of European Russia (Karsholt & Nieukerken 2004). In North America, 10 species have been recognized (Hodges et al. 1983).
